Dreaming of the Majors - Living in the BushBy all counts, Dick "Lefty" O'Neal didn't have a chance of playing professional baseball. However, today he holds the distinction of being the only white baseball player to pitch for two teams in the Negro Leagues that flourished throughout the twentieth century. Dreaming of the Majors is his account of the dream he nurtured from the age of five to play Major League baseball, the people God brought into his life who shaped the dream, and the amazing and unexpected twists and turns Dick experienced along the journey toward fulfilling the dream.

About Dick "Lefty" O'Neal

Written by Richard O'Neal

Dick “Lefty” O’Neal is the only white baseball player to pitch for two teams in the Negro Leagues. He played for the Biloxi Dodgers in the Gulf Coast Negro League and the San Antonio Black Sox in the South Texas Negro League. He also served in the United States Air Force for twenty-two years.

Non-Profit Organization, Vice President of the South Texas Professional Baseball Negro League Players Association, and serves as adjunct professor in speech communication at San Antonio College in San Antonio, Texas.

“My story is about one person with the right purpose, surrounded by the right people, making a difference. My prayer is that this book inspires you to make a positive difference one person at a time.  Looking back on my life I’ve often wondered what ... if you try hard enough you will make it to the top ... really means. If you don’t make it then what!  Hopefully my life’s journey will encourage you when you are down and remind you to never quit trying to make a positive difference in other lives”.

He and his wife, Harriett, live in Universal City, Texas. They are the parents of two wonderful adult children, Amy, and Richard.

"Lefty" is available for speaking engagements, book signings, and personal appearances.
